WILLIAMSTOWN MEETING. YOUNG IDEA VICTORIOUS. DEFEATS HALL MARK IN STAKES. MELBOURNE, August 25. The three-year-old Young Idea, a brilliant juvenile last season, narrowly defeated Hall Mark in the Underwood Stakes, weight-for-age, at the Williamstown Racing Club's meeting yesterday. Young Idea won by half a neck, and he established a race record in running the mile and 55 yards in 1.42. The New Zealand-bred Shatter, at one time owned by Mr. H. A. Knight, was successful in the Hurdle Race. East Cane was unplaced in the Three-year-old Handicap. Whernside and Dazzling Raid were unplaced in the first division of the Trugania Handicap, and Sir Simper in the second division. Results: — UNDERWOOD STAKES of £700. Weight-for-age. Considerable interest was lent to the Flying Handicap at the Rosebery races yesterday by reason of the fact that a number of prominent spring candidates made their first appearance of the season. The Epsom Handicap candidate Silver King defeated the well-performed Rogilla in the first division, and Australia Fair, who is also in the Epsom Handicap, won the second division. . Legatee was unplaced in the first division of the Flying Welter Handicap. Cavalcade was third in the second division of the same event, and Latharna was unplaced. Casimir (late Anslem), Viceroy, Tea Fight and Cockpen were unplaced in the third division of the Flying Welter Handicap. Results: — FLYING HANDICAP of £150. Sis furlongs.
