RACING AT ELLERSLIE.
PAKURANGA HUNT. THE ANNUM. MEETING. PROSY BOY WINS THE CUP. The annual meeting of the Pakuranga Hunt was held at Ellerslie on Saturday, and except for a shower just before the Jellicoe Handicap was run, the weather remained fine. There was a fairly good attendance, and though the course was on the heavy side, some interesting racing was provided. During the day the sum of £20,159 was put through the totalisator, compared with £17,417 for the corresponding day last year, an increase of £2742. All the Way. A shower fell just before the principal flat event, the Jellicoe Handicap, but the weather soon cleared again. A good betting race saw the public install Lord Val favourite with £759, next in request being Engi and Knight of Australia, with £582 and £497 respectively. An even dispatch was effected, and Kiltowyn (on the rails) and Engi (wide out) were first to become prominen*£ from Delrain, Baroscope, Knight of Australia, Master Norval and Lord Val, but going out of the straight Engi ran through to the front, to establish a lead along the back of five lengths to Knight of Australia and Kiltowyn (together), Baroscope, Lord Val, Delrain and Master Norval. Engi had slightly increased his lead as the top stretch was entered upon, and was well clear 61 Knight of Australia, Kiltowyn, Baroscope, Lord Val, Master Norval and Delrain. Engi 'turned for home six lengths clear of Knight of Australia and Kiltowyn (together), Lord Val, Baroscope and Master Norval, with Delrain well back last. Engi never looked in danger of defeat in the straight, and went on to beat Knight-of Australia by two lengths and a half, with Kiltowyn three-quarters of a length further back. Baroscope was fourth, and then came Lord Val and Master Norval. A Narrow Victory. All those engaged in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup went to the post, and when the final figures were adjusted most support was accorded Prosy Boy (£657) and Capella Abbey (£355). Ardmanning, who finished in second place, carried £169. When the field had settled and came to the water jump Bells of Bow was in the lead from Red Bray, Prosy BoyKahunoke, Ardmanning, Sandy Dix and Zane Grey, but Gascelle then ran through to the front and piloted the field up the hill, his nearest attendants being Sandy Dix, Bells of Bow, Hlumiaagh, Prosy Boy, Ardmanning, Zane Grey, Miss Pango and Capella Abbey. Sandy Dix and Uluminagh fell at ths top of the hill, while Kahunoice was stopped. When they came round to the double the order was Gascelle, Bells of Bow, Ardmanning, Red Bray, Prosy Boy, Zane Grey, Miss Pango and Capella Abbey, but at the fence by the fivefurlong post Miss Pango fell. Gascelle and Ardmanning were still in charge at the bottom of the hill, but the former then began- to tire,- and the orderdown the hill and into the straight was Ardmariiiing, ] Prosy ' Boy,' Zane' ' Grey (who fell at the stonewall), Gascelle, Capella' Abbey, Bells of Bow and Red Bray. Ardmanning and Prosy Boy had a rare tussle in the run home, and Prosy Boy just got up to gain the decision by a head, with a gap of eight lengths to Gapella Abbey. Bells of Bow, Red Bray and Gascelle were the next to finish. Silver Brier Easily. Teddy Boy, Callisto, Karohia, Court Anna and Royal.Light were not saddled up for the Auckland Handicap, and Jewelled Girdle ( £359) and Silver Brier (£322) were most in request. Primak was one of. the first to show out and passing the seven-furlong post was just in front of Landlubber; Valorous, Mountain Bruce, Jewelled Girdle, Express, Silver Brier, Merry Lap, Wee Pat and Charsong. Landlubber was In charge crossing the top from Express, Valorous, Jewelled Girdle,. Silver Brier,;■> Mountain Bruce and Merry Lap. There, was not much between Landlubber, . Express, Silver Brier and Jewelled Girdle at the home turn, Valorous, Mountain Bruce, Merry Lap and Wee Pat being next. Silver Brier then drew out and went on to win by two lengths from Jewelled Girdle, who beat Wee Pat by four lengths. Then followed Te Broney, Landlubber, Mountain Bruce, Express and Charsong. Favourite Comes Home. Eleven horses paraded for the Ladies' Bracelet and in a good betting race most money was invested upon the chances of Gainsay (£604), Gigantic (£496) and Lap Up { £493-), while the second fiorse, Huminagh, carried only £55. Grand Tonic) Gigantic, Lap Up and Sir Romeo' we're'the first out, and Grand Tonic led along the back on terms with Gainsay, with Uluminagh and Lap Up together next, and then coming Sir Romeo, Sandy Dix, Gigantic and Marching Song. Gainsay and Grand Tonic were still together as they crossed the top, being attended by Uluminagh, Marching Song, Sir Romeo, Sandy Dix and Gigantic. There was practically no change among the leading division into the straight but Gainsay stayed on too well and went on to beat Ilium iriagh by a length and a half, with Marching Song two and a half lengths away third. Gigantic, Sandy Dix, Lap Up, Grand Tonic and Sir Romeo were next to finish. Surprise in Sprint. Six scratchings from the Dunedin Handicap reduced the field to seven, and when the machine closed the best backed were Tybalt (£765) and Imamint (£681), while the winner carried only £385. Gay Lap was smartest to find his feet, and led along the back from Roman Mascot, Tybalt and Imamint. Gay Lap still had charge across the top from Imamint, Roman Mascot, Tybalt, British Columbia, Crooning, who was moving up, and Greek Gold. Gay Lap was the first to straighten up from Crooning, Imamint, Roman Mascot and Tybalt, and went on to win by a length and a half from Tybalt, who beat Imamint by two lengths. Greek Gold was fourth", then came Roman Mascot, Crooning, and British Columbia. Later results are: — JEU.ICOE HANDICAP of £200.
