ALAN STEDMAN IN FORM. NORTH OF ENGLAND TITLES. LONDON, August 25. In the finals of the North of England tennis championships at Scarborough Wilde and Butler defeated LytteltonRogers and A. C. Stedman (New Zealand), 6—B, 6—3, 6—4, 7—5. In the singles Stedman defeated Lyttle-ton-Rogers, 6 —2, 6—3. The loser was very nervous and lacked his usual brisk style. AUSTRALIA V. SOUTH AFRICA. CRAWFORD-QUIST WIN TWICE. JOHANNESBURG, August 25. The first tennis Test match Australia v. South Africa was be>;un on Saturday in bright and breezy weather. In the singles Quist defeated Kirby (South Africa), 6 —3, 6—3; Crawford defeated Farquharson (South Africa), 6—3, 5—7, 7—5. In the doubles Crawford and Quist defeated Farquharson and Musgrove, 6—3, 6—4, 4—«, 6-4. The match between Crawford and Farquharson was the most thrilling seen in South Africa for years. Both played a high standard. Farquharson was the stronger at the net, but Crawford's hard driving prevailed.
