AUCKLAND SEWERAGE.
NEED FOR A PLAN OF ACTION.
(To the Editor.)
The thanks of the community are due to your paper for its timely article on the sewerage systems of Auckland, with particu, lar reference to Ellerslie and adjoining districts. As you correctly state, the present systems have long been recognised as a menace to public health; but for years we have had nothing but talk. Must the authorities await an overdue epidemic before action is taken? Let us hope that the introduction of new Labour blood on the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board will result in the past policy . of talk and inactivity being immediately replaced by a definite plan of articn The only debatable point is which of Mr. Watkins schemesshculd be adopted—the Brown's Island or the West Coast? In this connection further information should be immediately obtained and a decilion reached as cxpeditiously as is humanly possible. It has long been a source o'" constant wonder and astonishment to me tli-j r ~nders have «o long endured those ot'olete systems of drainage and sewerage prevailing. Partfralsjly in view of the unempicked situation, all eeeliona of the c•immunity would be behind the Drainage Board in a decision to immediacy proceed with one of Mr: Watkins' schemes "for the reUe'j'ation of Greater Auckland. SANITAS.
