COLONIAL OFFICE.
RECRUITING IN DQMINION. RESUMPTION ANNOUNCED. Advice has been received that the British Colonial Office in London, from which the Crown Colonies are adminstered, has reopened the recruitment of New Zealand University graduates for the colonial service. Mr. M. Rocke O'Shea, registrar of the Auckland University College and liaison officer appointed by the Colonial Office for the Auckland centre, stated this morning that the Colonial Office had begun to recruit candidates for its service from New Zealand University graduates a 'few years ago, but >the recruitment had been suspended during the depression. Before its suspension, three Aucklan<fers had joined the Colonial service, Messrs. P.' C. Minns, a former Rhodes scholar, and R. Sinclair receiving administrative positions, and Mr; G. G. McLeod an educational position in Singapore.
The type of candidate that the Colonial Office wanted, said Mr. O'Shea, ■was the good all-round man. similar to those selected as Rhodes scholars, who might be expected to develop administrative ability. Such candidates would be selected by local committees set up by each of the four university colleges in the Dominion, and their names 'would be forwarded to the New Zealand committee, of which the Governor-General was chairman. A limited number of the candidates would be recommended to the Colonial Office by the New Zealand committee.
