TAMAKI YACHT CLUB.
The popular clubhouse of the Tamaki Yacht Club on the Bastion point was crowded on Saturday night, when a plain and fancy dress ball was held. The grand march was most spoctacular, 48 dancers in most varied costumes taking part, and the judges, Mrs. W. P. Endean, Mrs. N. L. Macky and Mrs. Jack Macky, had a very arduous task to decide the eight prize winners. They were so good that the club decided to present six special prizes.
The guests were received by Mrs. F. Browne, president of the ladies' committee, and the commodore, Mr. \V. A. Wilkinson. The prizes were presented by the Mayoress, Mrs. Ernest Davis. The winners were: Best costumes, Miss J. Smith (Spanish lady), and Miss E. Raymond (King Charles); most original, Miss Brewer (lightning), Mr. Crozier (grandma); best pair, Misses Sylvia and Phyllis Clark (wheelbarrow express); specials, Miss Beckett and Mr. Marks (jazz chocks), Messrs. J. Philips and P. Clark (Indian hockey players), Mrs. Laslett (Lady Gainsbro'), Mr. Jackson Madill (swagger), Mr. Garth Griffiths (Gandhi), Mr. N. Williams (brand of cigarettes), Miss Dingle (hula girl), Mr. Robertson (King of Abyssinik).
Others present in fancy dress included: Miss Betty Whaley (jester), Miss A. Bishop (silver jubilee), Miss J. Smith (Spanish senorita), Miss E. Smith (green gipsy), Mr. Lambert (awain), Mrs. Googer (Nell Gwynn), Mr. M. Lowe (Gandhi), Mr. H. Barry (Lady Flame), Mr. G. Beckett (Mexican), Mr. E. Marshall (sheik), Mr. J. and Miss G. Simpson (Derby Day), Mrs. G. Beckett (Carmen), Mrs. Young (Turkish lady), Miss Loveridge (cabaret girl), Mr. A. Beckett (swagger), Mrs. Crowhurst (pierrot), Mr. and Mrs. Davis (harmony couple), Miss' M. Radamacher (Spanish lady).
