CYCLIST Y. PACER.

CHRISTCHURCH CHALLENGE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. A challenge to any cyclist to race the pacer Taxpayer over a mile on the Addington course for £100 aside has been issued by the owner of the horse, Mr. J. R. McKenzie. The challenge has been taken up by Mr. Price Jones, of the ..Tones Cycles Company, who has nominated Harry Watson, the Xew Zealand road champion. The event may take place at the burlesque meeting arranged by the Canterbury Owners and Breeders' Association, to assist the city's big queen carnival effort, to be held on August 24. No indication is given in the message as to whether the race is to be run from a standing or flying start. The time for the Australasian pacing record over a mile is held by the New Zealand horse Indianapolis, who recorded 2.1 2-5 against time last season. The cycling unpaced standing-start record for a mile stands to the credit of F. W. Southall, of Ensland, whose time in 1929 was 2.2 1-5. Taxpayer is not in the class _of j Indianapolis, but even so he is recognised | as a speedy pacer.
