IMPROVEMENT IN COURSES. BALLIN CUP FINAt. OLD COLLEGIANS MATCH. After several days' bright sunshine the golf links mndo considerable recovery from the soaking which they hnd received, and the competitions were played under much more favourable condition*. Unfortunately heavy rain yesterday afternoon and during the night will undo much of the good that followed the line spell. Middlemore has suffered more than Ihe other courses, out tho full links were open on Saturday. At Titirangi the final of the Dollin Cup was played, resulting in n win for C. S. O. Woods from N. C. McLean. The golf was poor, and McLean in particular was off his game. Woods was one up at the turn and won four holes in a row from the twelfth to (he fifteenth and the game was over. The Self Cup was commenced at Titirangi. and C. G. Fisher headed the first of the three medal rounds with a net 7.5. At Middlemore the George Cup medal contest was played. It. Plumloy, with a line round of 74, headed the eight competitors who play off under handicap match play conditions. Old boys of the old college rivals, King's and Grammar, played their annual match, Grammar winning, AUCKLAND CLUB. GEORGE CUP CONTEST. The George Cup medal competition was played at Middlemore, where the course had made a satisfactory recovery from tho sodden conditions. The annual golf match for tho "Old Rivals'' trophy between old boys' teams representing King's College and the Auckland Grammar School was played at (lie Akarana links, resulting in a win for Auckland Grammar by seven games to five, three being nil square. Tho match was conducted on the handicap principle. A Stableford bogey competition was decided in conjunction, C. T. Keegan, of the King'* College team, proving the winner. Playing a particularly steady tame throughout, Miss 11. Dannefaerd defeated Mrs E. L. Barker by 2 and 1 in the final of the senior championship of the Uotorua Ladies' Golf Club. The match was one of the most interesting finals for the championship witnessed in recent years, no fewer than eleven holes being halved. Mrs. Barker, however, was not playing her usual short game, and lost many opportunities by erratic approach shots and unsteady putting Miss Dannefaerd is a 14 handicap player, while Mrs. Barker is on 4.
