SEWAGE OUTFALL.
OPPOSITION TO SCHEME. DEVONPORT'S VIEWS. The Devonport Borough Council last night' decided to support the Waitemata County Council in its objection to the creation of a sewer outfall for the North Shore between Campbell's Bay and Caster Bay. The Devonport body unanimously concurs in the view that the outfall would pollute the east coast bays. Mr. S. S. Green: We ought to say to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, "Hands off the North Shore." Mr. E. Aldridge suggested that the council should consider resurrecting the Marine Boroughs' Association. Such an organisation would -enable another body, like the Waitemata County Council, to meet the local bodies on the North Shore. A motion to this effect was carried. The Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle: We should do all we can to preserve our beaches. "It seems a mad proposal," said Mr. 11. J. Hutchings. The area under review was a "dead" tidal area, and it would soon be a tidal pool. A motion was carried supporting the Waitemata Council's protest.
