ONLY FIVE CASES.
CRIMINAL SESSION. The lightest criminal list since 1022 at least, and 110 doubt one of the smallest in the Court's history, will be considered in the Supreme Court next week, when the third quarterly session takes place, commencing on Tuesday. For many years the average number of eases on the list has been about 20. but on this occasion there are only five for consideration by the juries under the direction of two judges. Mr. Justice Fair and Mr. Justice Callan.
It is expected that the trials will be concluded 011 Thursday and that the civil cases, before juries, will commence the next dav.
The most serious crime alleged is that of blackmail and assault, causing bodily harm, both of which charges are preferred against the same person. The other offences alleged include sheep stealing, fraud and breaking and entering. Two of the committals for trial were made in Auckland, two at Whangarci and one at Kaikohe.
