COACH FOR CANTERBURY,
W. E. MERRITT IS ENGAGED.

CHRISTCHURCH, this day,
W. E. Merritt, formerly a Canterbury and New Zealand representative cricketer, and the best slow bowler New Zealand lias produced for many years, lias been engaged as professional coach to the Canterbury Cricket Association for the coming season. Since going to England Merritt has been playing in Lancashire league cricket and has been one of the outstanding players. He holds the league bowling record, which had previously been held by the great player Barnes. Merritt will take up his duties as coach early in October. The appointment will not sever Merritt's connection with English cricket, which commenced in 1932. He will return to England at the close of the New Zealand season and resume playing for the Lancashire league. BADCOCK IN ENGLAND. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. F. T. Badcock, the Otago Cricket Association's professional coach, has signed on again for next season'with Werneth Club in the Lancashire League. He will return to Dunedin in October.
