WHY CREATURES NEED EYELIDS.
Eyelids arc for the protection of the eyes. When clanger threatens, as, for example, when a cloud of smoke or a mass of dnst approaches, the eyelids close to protect the eye. All creatures do not possess eyelids. Fishes, for example, do not need lids. Living in the water, they are saved from the danger of dust and such-lika annoyances. On the other hand, snakes have'their eyelids permanently closed. As they arc transparent, however, this does" not matter. The reptiles are thus able to crawl through the undergrowth without their eyes becoming damaged.
