ALMOST CAUGHT.
HOUSE THIEF AT EPSOM,
The sum of £H was taken from the home of Mr. F. Swift, of 32, The Drive, Epsom, on Wednesday night by a thief, who, though discovered and pursued, mado good his escape, through the aid of an accomplice. Mr. Swift was awakened at 5 o'clock in the morning and he saw a man using a torch in the hall. He accosted the man in a back room, where he was examining tho contents of Mrs. Swift's purse. The thief flashed his torch in Mr. Swift's eyes, and escaped through the back door. Mr. Swift pursued him, but the intruder escaped down Arcadia Road on the corner of which the house is situated, an accomplice holding open the back gate. It was afterwards discovered that a small sum had been taken from the clothing of a son, Mr. Lawrence Swift. The £6 belonged to another son, Mr. Reginald Swift.
