TE AROHA HORSES.
VAL WATCH'S MISSION
GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES,
Mr. T. J. Hickey, of Waihou, has leased the three-year-old filly Monalette to Messrs. J. and H. Crosby, of Hamilton. Mr. R. Burke, who some years ago raced Gay Comet and Queen Comet successfully, has a yearling full-sister to Queen Nona (King Lu —Elnora) that is well spoken of. 1 She will be taken in hand fairly early, as *' it isf'intended, to race her. 2 _ Val Wateli has been nominated for the Grand National Hurdles! and it is intended T that she shall make th<; trip. She is still ' bowling along on the tracks in good style and lias steadied down very considerably 5 since being ridden in her work by her 3 trainer, A. E. Cox. i Nicely Grown. ! J In the course of walking exercise, Mr. - P. A. Swney's rising two-year-old filly by Gay Shield—Madam Ruth has been over to - the Te Aroha course. She is a chestnut, I her coat being plentifully flecked with t white hairs. Nicely grown, she also shows t quality. E On present appearance it is likely Mazir ' will stand a good preparation. Although I lie is by no means being hurried," lie is • executing vsry satisfactory work and will ' probably be ready to compete at sotae of the early spring fixtures. 1 Just now Record Flight is spending most ; of his time in the paddock, but is being > fed regularly and boxed at Jiight. Towards '■ the end of this month, he will be recoms missioned, and in due course may make • amends for past disappointments. Nahlin is wintering well and there- is j every reason to expect that he will be. i If this be so, he should win races, for he . more robust in constitution next season, i has pace and finishes on strongly. This . half-brother to King Musk should make ; good as a four-year-old. 1 Royal Secret's Spell Ending. During this month Royal Secret will be reqommissioned after several weeks in the t paddock. Mr. G. Stephns thoroughly • understands the King Lu—Elope mare and i should have her in trim for summer racing, i Mr. W. Schaare's King Spear is being I wintered, and it is intended to put him • into work again in the, near future., When i on the tracks here in February Last this . two-year-old showed galloping ability, but ; as he was grpwing it was deemed advisable . to put him out of work for a time. By • Speardance from Queenie Latour, he has ! the Musket-St. Simon strains in his pedi- , greo and should therefore be a payable proposition.
