QUIETER THIS MORNING.

GOVERNMENT STOCKS WANTED. After heavy trading yesterday afternoon i usiness on the Auckland Stock Exchange fpcncd rather quietly' this morning. Government stocks wcra again in keen inquest, but most sellers had withdrawn, ; nd the only lots on offer at the first call ■\ ere *'-10s at £10-1 ctnd '3S-'43's at £106. A big list of local body scrip totalling 15 'separate issues was on offer, but there were buyers for only three. Banks were ■steady, with New Zealand quoted from £2 10/3 to £2 10/6. In the insurance section South British continued firm. Buyers moved up to £4 17/6, but sellers stood out for £4 19/. Auckland Gas shares maintained recent improvement, with buyers at £1 0/6, and holders asking Od higher. New Zealand Breweries were firm, with inquiries at the last sale price, £2 12/3. In the unlisted section Proceras were in demand at £2 15/, but there were no sellers. The Noon Call. With values firm and moderate trading the Stock Exchange continued in a healthy condition at noon. In the banking section holders of New Zealands raised their limits to £2 10/0, and sellers came in for both E.S.A.'s and National Banks at £5 2/3 and £3 10/6 respectively. Auckland Gas were firmer, with buyers offering £16/9 and 3d above. New Zealand Newspapers continued active at •recent rates. Sellers of Waihis came in 3d lower, at £1 17/, but still failed to attract buyers. Procera showed another sharp rise, closing between £3 5/ and £3 11/6.

When Government stocks are included, the calculation provides for redemption at maturity. When payment is made in sterling, exchange is added.
