SOUTHERN EXCHANGES.
TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A slightly smaller volume of business was put through on Exchange this morning, the feature of the market being the generally firmer tendency and the fact that all transactions were made at either steady or higher rates. Among the banks, National of New Zealand held yesterdays higher level, with further business at £3 10/ after which- there were buyers at £3 9/ and no sellers. The brewery section was rather quiet, but quotations firmed in some cases. Tooth's were on a stronger level, and Staples', which had last business at £1 13/. had further buyers at that figure. The miscellaneous section was interesting, and although Broken Hill had the only business, this was at the big advance of 1/3. Australian Glass was firmer from £3 8/6 to £3 10/, and Colonial Sucar buyers went up to £42 10/, sellers staying wide £2 above. Wilsons Cement were firmer than ever, the market showing buyers at £1 18/6 and sellers at £2. Woolworths (N./.) rose in quotations, and shares were wanted at £12 1/, sellers asking £13.
