SOCIAL GATHERINGS. • ■ • . ■•■.i At the Ross Club meeting on Wednesday in the Garrick Repertory Theatre rooms, tlie speaker was Mrs. Helen Griffiths, •who, after a short talk, gave elocutionary items. Miss Daphne Mortenson and Miss Patty McLaughlin aleo recited. Competitions, community singing and supper concluded the evening. The president, Mrs. M. W. W. Spiers, was in the chair. . • ♦ • • A very pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rowe, Mary Street, Thames, to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of their daughter, Asta. Games and competitions were thoroughly enjoyed 'by everyone. The epecial feature of the evening was the beautiful birthday cake, decorated, in pink and white with the customary 21 candles.
A farewell evening was given in the Parish Hall. Tβ Puke, on Wednesday night, by tl;o Foresters' Lodge and the many friends of Mies Hilda Cooke and Mr. Jack Vercoe, who are shortly to be married. Mr. Keith Diinlop acted aa master of ceremonies, while Mrs.' C. Itiddell officiated at the piano, extras being played by Miss Nellie Hicks and Mr. Walter Dick. Mr. Warry Pile accompanied on the saxophone. Mrs. Major's two songs were greatly appreciated. During the supper interval, Mr. Persey, on behalf of those present, presented the' bride-to-be with a. beautiful silver tea eervice. Mr. Hansen spoke on behalf of the Foresters.
Isle church wardens, vestrymen And their wives ot tho six churches in the parish of Otahuhu and the staff of St. Mary's Heme, were guests of the vicar and Mrs. Stanton at an At Home social on Thursday last. OvewlOO guesta were present. Matters concerning the work and welfare of the Church throughout the parish were discussed between items, and the opportunity was taken to bid farewell to the headmaster of King's College, Rev. H, K. Arehall, who was present. The gathering expressed its high esteem of Mr. Archall and of his work and ability, as well as its deep regret that his valued services .were not being retained in New' Zealand. "The vicar was asked to arrange for quarterly services at Holy Trinity in which worshippers' of each of the six- churches should combine.
