AUCKLAND SUPREME COURT. CLOSING OF TENDERS. With the closing of (tenders to-day for the. Supreme Court library block, a further step was taken towards the provision of accommodation of which the legal profession in Auckland has long been in need. The library is to be erected oil portion of tile triangular al'ett behind the present court building, with Which It will be connected by a covered passage.
The new structure, a two storeyed one, is designed according to a modern vei'sioii of Gothic architecture, and will be in reinforced conei'ote with brick facings. The entrance Will face Court vlllc Flats ill Eden Street. The ground floor Will provide a robing room for both men and Womell barristers, and a common room and a consulting room. The bulk of the top floor Will be occupied by a library 00ft by 24ft, and there will also be a subsidiary library and a librarian's Office. It is estimated that the libraries will accommodate 30,000 books. A hot water heating system is to be installed. The plans also provide for additions to the judge's room in the Upstairs court opening on to a roof looking out on the harbour. ,
The tenders will be considered in Wellington on Thursday and it is expected that the successful tenderer Will be announced Within a few days. The contract* allows ten months for completion.
