HIGHER TAXI FARES.
CHRISTCHXTRCH DECISION. (By TPlp^rnph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHUUCIT. Monday. The Christchurch City Council tonight adopted a recommendation which will have the effect of increasing taxi fares. . , Recently, ill order, as it was stu eel, to mitigate the effects of fierce competition, the council fixed minimum fares. This led to a reduction of business and one association of owner-drivers set up an organisation with suburban depots, or stands, and charged fares one way only. This increased business at once. The council's decision to-night was .that fares must be charged both ways.
