A tourney was held by the Glendowle Golf Club yesterday, when a foursomes bogey handicap for the Dewar Cup was played during the morning and a fouruall bogey handicap in the afternoon. The Dewar Cup, played for annually, was won last year by Dr. C. Horton and J. Stetfman, but they could not return a card of 77. F. Trice and W. Laxon, and A. Milne and C. M. King returned 74, but this was not good enough to beat A. C. Taine and J. Colebrook, with a net (JoJ. Their card showed seven bogey figures anil only two sixes. They were out in 43 and home in 42. The afternoon four-bail was played under better conditions as the fairways and greens had dried up. K. A. Kennedy and J. McCrystall won with a card of 4 up. The next best cards were :—J_. Hornabrook, of Masterton. Excelled himself yesterday to win the Wairarapa championship from the title-holder, B. M. Silk, of Wanganui. who had beaten him in the last two years' tourneys. The Masterton player never let up once, being 1 up ,T.t the turn, and clinching the match at the fifteenth hole, 4 and 3 to play. He outplayed Silk, whose driving lacked direction and whose approaches were below standard. ' Silk also missed some easy putts, which would have made all the difference to the game. Hornabrook. on the other hand, was brilliant with putting. 'while his driving was consistently good. Hornabrook also distinguished himself in the semi-final against T. 11. Horton, whom he defeated 1 up at the nineteenth, by sinking a 30ft putt for three, two under bogey for the hole. In the other semi-final Silk bent C. Campbell Heard, a Masterton player, 2 and 1. FERRIER "PLUS ONE." (Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. J. Terrier, the 20-vear-old amateur golf champion of New South Wales, is now Australia's, and possibly the world's, lowest handicap player. In future Ferrier will plav from plus one handicap. Yesterday Ferrier equalled the Manly course record with 67. In the last four months of competitions, running into about 80 rounds, Ferrier has only twice exceeded par.
