"BLACK-OUT" AIR RAID.
MIMIC WAR IN BRITAIN. LONDON, June 2. The first air raid "black-out" in Britain was conducted at 11.30 p.m., when 130,000 inhabitants of the neighbouring towns of Chatham, Rochester and Gillingham suddenly reverted to war-time conditions. War 'planes flew overhead, sirens shrieked, warning rockets soared into the air, and 100 square miles, including Chatham Dockyards, were thrown into darkness. The police ensured the observance of improvised regulations.
