OVERSEAS SERVICE. FEES REDUCED BY 25 P.C. AUSTRALIA AND BRITAIN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. The Postmaster-General, Mr. Hamilton, announced to-day that a permanent reduction of 25 per cent in the charges for radio telephone service between New Zealand and Australia, and between New Zealand and the United Kingdom had been agreed to between the administrations concerned, the reduction to take effect as from to-morrow. The new rates are as follow:— Between New Zealand and Australia, 15/ per minute, with a minimum of £2 5/; between New Zealand and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, £1 14/ per minute, with a minimum of £5 2/. The Minister expressed the hope that those permanent reductions, following immediately upon the jubilee reduction of 50 per cent in the charges for calls between New Zealand and the United Kingdom during the month of May, would result in the radio telephone service being availed of to a much greater extent than in the past, and thus bring about an even closer relationship between these already closely-related portions of the Empire.
