HOLIDAY LULL.
COALITION DISCUSSED. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 30. Ascension Day holiday in France today, causing crowds to ilock to sporting events, gave the country a respite from tho franc crisis. Politicians, however, held conferences all the morning. Tho Left parties were unable to agree upon a Coalition Government, including Socialists and Radicals, following a vigorous speech by M. Herriot, who urged that unless they gave M. Flandin full powers they would be supporting devaluation.
M. Herriot. The parties decided to defer decision as to whether to vote for or against the Government until they had heard M. Flandin's speech. The "Daily Telegraph" Paris correspondent says that in normal circumstances such an emphatic rejection of a bill as that by the Finance Committee, when it turned down the proposed measure giving the Government plenary powers by 25 to 15 votes, would have sealed its fate. M. Flandin, however, scorning rumours of his intention to resign immediately, is determined to fight to the end. Other Paris correspondents report that all the members of the Left Wing on the Finance Committee voted against M. Flandin, declaring they would give no one a blank cheque such as lis demanded. It is understood that the crux of the matter was M. Flandin's refusal to give the committee details of the proposed cuts in salaries and other savings 011 social reforms. M. Herriot, at a meeting of the executive of the Radical-Socialist party, denounced the vote of the Finance Committee and declared that in the event of M. Flandin's Ministry being defeated lie would refuse the Prime Ministership.
