SWIMMING.
EASTERN SUBURBS CLUB. MOUNT EDEN AND SURF ACTIVITIES. A new swimming club, with headquarters at St. Heher's, will be in existence in time for next season. Although the inaugural meeting lias not yet been held, the support of about 5u enthusiasts has been obtained, and it is intended to name the club the Eastern Suburbs Amateur Swimming and Life-savmg Club, its territory comprising Mission Bay, Koliitnarama, St. Helier's, Howick and Kemuera. Swimming as a competitive pastime has never been organised in these districts, and, in view of tne fact that the club will function almost entirely in marine suburbs, and offer encouragement to children through the various primary schools, the promoters are hopeful thyt in its first season it will become one of the largest clubs in New Zealand. Special attention will be given to surf life-saving work. The -Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club will enter surf activities next season, in all probability at Motuihi, as a result of the decision of a general meeting last week. Requirements in regard to equipment were explained by Mr. Haswell Sidford, honorary secretary to the Auckland Surf Life-saving Association, and the club is procuring a reel, as well as applying to the association for permission to institute a patrol at Motuihi. Motuihi has hitherto been unguarded, in spite of being the most popular beach near Auckland, so that the establishment of a patrol of trained life-savers will evoke general approval. At a meeting of the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life-saving Society last night it was decided to recommend Miss Campbell and Messrs. G. T. Allen and A. H.
