APRIL STATEMENT.

INCREASED NOTE ISSUE. LAKGES LONDON ASSETS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Assets and liabilities of the six trading banks, showing the position at the qlose of business on Monday, April 29, vvero the subject of a statement gazetted to-night. This is the ninth monthly return to appear since the Reserve Bank opened. Since March 25, the date on which tho last previous return was compiled, the notes of the trading banks in circulation have decreased from £854,040 to £800,302, a fall of £54,3.°38. There lias been a decrease of £085,033 compared with the position at December 31. Tho active note circulation, made up of tho notes of the trading banks stiil outstanding and that portion of Reserve Bank issue in the hands of the public, was £0,579,093 at April 29. This is tho second highest figure in any of tho returns, being exceeded only at December 31, when the demands of tho holiday season swelled' the issue. Tho Easter holiday season would operate ill the same direction on the. present occasion. , Deposits and Advances. The demand liabilities or current account liabilities in New Zealand of the baiiks totalled £27,005,334, a fall of £575,531. The upward movement which had been marked in this item since December has thus been checked. A contrary movement is shown by tho income of over £300,000 in fixed deposits, which previously had been decreasing steadily from the high level of £40,592,374 recorded at July 30.
