A special jilbilce luncheon»Avas held en board the .Monowai to-day when the chief gncfit Was Mm. (.'. T. Wodgcwood, of North Stafford, a great granddaugiiier of Lunertior Willittm Ilobson. The function wai arranjied by the Auckland Travel Club. The Hon. Eliot Uavis presided, and in mi address paid a tribute to the retiring Mayor, Mr. Oi \V. Hutchieoli, alul gave an outline of Governor HdDroiiVi career. Mrs. Wedgewood read a hitherto unpublished le,tter which Captain Hobson had written in 1840 from Kussell to, his wife. In this he gave his reasons for choosing Auckland as a suitable site for the capital oF the colony-. She said that ehe intended to give the letter to j the Auckland War Memorial Museum. J
