Photographs taken at the rate of more than 0000 a second have shown clearly what happens when a football is kicked. The toe presses into the leather so hard that the diameter of the ball is reduced by about one-half. When the pressure is relieved the ball immediately swells to its normal shape. Before the ball has had time to rise more than a few inches the foot has reached the ground once more.
