SOUTHERN EXCHANGES.
GOVERNMENT SECURITIES IN DEMAND. (By Telegraph.—Spcclal to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The market opened well on the Exchange this morning, and a good volume of sales was recorded. Among Government stocks and bonds buyers again quoted freely, while the only parcels on Bale were 1939-43 tax free at £106 and 1940 stock at £105 5/. Buyers for these were at £104 10/ for the former and £104 17/6 for the latter. The banking section was firm, New Zealands selling at unchanged rates. The other quotations were at last week's closing levels. Reserve Banks were slightly easier, the market standing from £6 12/0 to £6 13/3. New Zealand Breweries had buyers at £2 15/ and sellers 6d higher. British Tobaccos lost another 2d in business, down to £1 18/7, with further buyers at that price and sellers at £1 18/9. Other Australian issues were quietly quoted. New Zealand Drug shares were steady, the quotations being 1/ on either side of £4. The demand for' Wilsons Cements was strong at £1 15/6. Woolworths (N.Z.) came on the sales list at late rates. In the mining section Mount Morgans and Mount Lyells were fractionally firmer, the former rising to £1 18/3, at which level there were further unsatisfied buyers. Buyers for Waihi offered j £2 2/3, and sellers were 1/ higher. j
