OBITUARY.
MR. CHARLES W. S. FLETT,
The death occurred this morning as the result of pneumonia following an operation for the removal of his tonsils of Mr. Charles William Sutherland Flett, well known in Auckland as the proprietor of the Commercial Hotel. He was 59 years of age. The late Mr. Flett was born at the Thames, being a son of the late Mr. John Flett, for many years licensee of the Rob Roy Hotel at Parawai, and later at Wailii. As a young man in Wailii he was a prominent Rugby football player. After being in the hotel business with his father , lie went farming at Mataniata, remaiilmg on the land for about eight years. Returning to the 1 hames he took over the proprietorship of the Royal Hote-1 and fonjaincd there for about seven years. Thames, where for a time he was a member of the local Hospital Board, lie came to Auckland three years ago, and \since then had been in the GommeVefcil Hotel.
Until lie became ■ a sufferer from rheumathoid arthritis the late-Mr. Flett was a prominent bowler. He \tfon numerous trophies, and an two occasions skipped the team which won the Coldfields Stars. At Matamata he took a prominent part in tlie formation of the local bowling club. Among bowlers at Wailii, Thames and Mataniata be-' was particularly well known. At Auckland, although unable to follow his favourite sport, he took a keen interest in Rugby football, and was a vice-president of the Grammar Okl Boys' Club.
The late Mr. Flett is survived by his wife, one daughter. Mrs. W. Page, three sons, one of whom, Mr. J. Flett, is in the Public Trust Office, and two grandchildren.
