A FINE START.
AFRICAN CRICKETERS. Dismiss Worcester for 90 and Score 351. CRISP'S LIVELY BOWLING. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, May 2. Although the outfield was soft, the wicket, which had been covered during Wednesday's rain, was surprisingly IVirjt for the commencement of the South African cricketers' first match against Worcestershire. The conditions were tricky for an hour, during which Crisp and Bell bowled very well. The latter's in-swingers were early destructive.
Later, Crisp, who is faster, had a damaging spell, and with lively off-breaks in tlie last two overs took live wickets for no runs. Walters alone looked at ease. The Worcester batting was of the feeblest description and rather flattered the visitors, who were given a taste of similar medicine, Perks—fast from the pitch—clean bowling two African stars before lunch. Thereafter the opposition was stouter, and Nourse produced perfect cover drives. Rowan and Nourse, in a fine 90 minutes' partnership, were not spectacular, but both were completely confident in their initial English match, and attempted all possibilities. Cameron sparkled, and was reminiscent of Jessop, hitting three successive sixes. He completed 50 in 45 minutes. Dalton's good display, characterised by sound driving included eleven fours. The county requires 201 to save an innings defeat. Scores:— WORCESTERSHIRE.—First Innings.
