INDIANAPOLIS BEATEN.
BRILLIANT EFFORT BY ROI L'OR. In the contest for the Final Handicap on the second day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club'a autumn meeting, t/ie first content between Indianapolis and ltoi l'Or on level terms provoked considerable interest among the admirers of both horses, states the ! "(Jhristchuich Star." Others with an eye 011 the totalisator thought Glenrossie would beat both ot them on the handicap. The assembly became keyed up as the horses took their places at the barriers, and all eyes were on the starter. "They're off!" came as if from one throat. Glenrossie and Roi l'Or began smartly. Indianapolis was slow to move. Auburn Lad was soon in difficulties, and .Mountain Dell and Great Logan were headed by Gienrossie, who, at the end of four furlongs was gliding along in front with Great Logan and -Mountain Dell as his nearest attendants. At that stfjge of the contest he had a lead of five lengths from Roi l'Or, aud six lengths from Indianapolis. who was trailing Roil' Or. Glcnrossie went down the Back straight boldly, and three furlongs from home it looked as if nothing would catch him. A furlong farther on Roi l'Or made a sharp run, which took him up to Glenrossie's sulky wlieel, but Indianapolis was not doing as well as Glcnrossie and Roil' Or. Into the straight they came, and the huge mass of people rose to their feet. Roi l'Or soon had Glenrossie's measure, but Indianapolis-" could not make any impression on his two opponents, and a furlong from home it was obvious that he would be beaten. Under a still' drive, Roi l'Or responded valiantly, and passed the winning post a length and a half in front of Glcnrossie, who finished two lengths in front of Indianapolis. All the honours of the race belong to Roi l'Or, and he had a fitting reception on returning to scale. It was a masterly performance on the part of the hoitsc and his driver, F. Holmes, who has no peer as a reinsman. Roi l'Or is 11 years old, and has raced brilliantly this season. He is by Rey de Oro from Gold Queen, and is owned by Mr. I'. Brown, of Waimate, who trains him. The first two furlongs were run in 34 2-ss, halfmile I.G, six furlongs 1.37 1-5. Glenrossie reached the mile post in 2-8 2-5, and Roi l'Or covered the aimo distance in 2.7 1-5; He paced the last two furlongs iu 31s. The track was dead, and under the conditions Roi l'Or put up a magnificent performance.
