CUT RESTORATION ISSUE,
MINISTER'S COMMENT. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Commenting on the attitude of the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Hoard. Mr. \V. Wallace, regarding the restoration of the first 10 per cent cut in the salaries of Hospital Board employees, the -Minister of Health, Sir Alexander Young, said there was no power to prevent boards from restoring the cuts. If, however, the cuts were restored over the amount of the Government's wage restoration scale, the extra cost would have to he borne by the ratepayers, and would not be reflected in the Government subsidy to boards. On being informed of the Minister's comment, Mr. Wallace reiterated the opinion expressed by him at the meeting of the Hospital Board on Tuesday, namely, that New Zealand would not pet back to normal conditions until the cuts wore restored, as the restoration of wages would play an important part in the return to satisfactory economic conditions.
