ROUGH AIR TRIP.
CHRISTCHURCH-AUCKLAND.
LANDING AT NEW PLYMOUTH,
A very rough trip was experienced by Mr. J. R. McKenzie, who arrived at Auckland this morning by aeroplane to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law, Mr. G. H. Carter, a director of the firm of Messrs. J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., whoso death occurred yesterday in Auckland.
With Mr. J. Bush, a well-known Canterbury pilot, in charge of the machine, a start was made from Christchurch yesterday morning at 11. Head winds and raiii were met all the way north, and on reaching the North Island the flying conditions were still bad. Mr. Linwood. of the Shell Oil Company, while motoring in Taranaki, saw the 'plane flying low. and communicated with the' New Plymouth aerodrome by telephone, with the result that flares were got ready, and the 'plane made a safe landing there at dark. Mr. Linwood ako made for the aerodrome, and motored Mr. McKenzie and the pilot to New Plymouth. This morning the 'plane took off for Auckland, and a fast trip of one and a half hours was made to Mangere aerodrome. Mr. McKenzie spoke appreciatively of the way that the 'plane was handled under difficult conditions by Mr. Bush, also of Mr. Linwood's action in advising the New Plymouth aerodrome so that the necessary Sanding preparations could he made.
