LICENSES INCREASE. TOTAL AT MARCH, 154,923. WELLINGTON IN THE LEAD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The increasing popularity of radio is shown by the number of licenses issued for the current year. The total of radio licenses taken out as at March 31 was 154,923, including 152,489 receiving licenses, the latter figure showing an increase in twelve months of 34,705. The

increase in the same class of licenses for the previous year was. 24,573.

The licenses, with the increases given in parentheses, are as follow: Auckland, 40.038. (11.712); Canterbury, 27,792 (0823); Otago, 20,904 (5351); Wellington, 57.09.") (10,819). In addition to listeners' licenses, there are 1214 dealers' licenses, 873 granted to experimental amateurs, three for experimental research, 319 free to blind persons and institutions, and 25 broadcasting licenses.
