F.A. TROPHY MATCHES.
WELLINGTON PROPOSAL
REJECTED.
KING'S JUBILEE FIXTURE
The Wellington Association has proposed to Auckland that the challenge for the F.A. Trophy, held by Auckland, be this year played at Wellington. The suggestion was made in view of the fear that three challenges, from Wellington, Otago and Canterbury, might result in financial loss to Auckland, and was considered at the meeting of the A.F.A. Control Board last evening, Mr.. Leo Munro presiding.
The board took the view that so far as the Wellington visits were concerned, they had practically always proved profitable fixtures. It was the visits of Otago and Canterbury, where the travelling expenses were much heavier, that had threatened loss to the association'. Further, the Wellington matches had never failed to provide lively interest and prove strong attractions, and it was decided that the board could not com : ply with the proposal from Wellington.
Arrangements were advanced for the first representative match of the season between Auckland and the Navy at Blandford Park on Jubilee Day, Monday next. It was reported that several trial matches had been played at the Dock ground this week in order to field the strongest team from the Service. The final choice is expected to be announced to-morrow and a keen and exciting contest is confidently expected. Captain the Hon. E. R. Drummotid, the new Commodore, intends to be present at the match on Monday. As a curtain-raiser a second grade championship match, Ponsonby A v. Thistle A will be played.
OlHcials wore appointed to the following prounils:-—Victoria Park, Mr. F. IT. Baker: Western Springs, Mr. W. Smytlie-iii.-ui; Xorth Shore, Mr. W. Morris; Mount Albert, Mr. A. Fletcher. 'J'he following additional fifth prade fixture was arranged for Saturday:—Comrades B v. Xcw Lynn, Victoria Park Xo. 3, Mr. Selby.
