INCREASE FOR APRIL

RETURN FROM SALES TAX.

Customs revenue collected at Auckland last month, amounting to £211,77 U, was £0532 more than was collected in April of last year, but, owing to decreases in January and February, the total for the first four months of this year, £8.30.500, is £3910 less than for the same period of last year. The returns from motor spirit and tyre duties and from excise on beer were all higher last month than tliey were in the same month of last year, and the totals for the first four months of this year are also higher than they were for" the same period of last year. Sales tax collected last month amounted to £50,035, compared with £50 018 in April, 1934, while for the four months the collection was £213,04.), an increase of £15.731 over last year. Details of the receipts under the various headings for last month, compared with April, 1934, are: — INCREASE IN WELLINGTON. SALES TAX SUBSTANTIAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELL!XGTON, Wednesday. A further substantial increase in Customs revenue is recorded for the month „vcr the figures for April, 1934. Sales tux also shows a big increase, the total for April being the highest for any individual month this year. Not Customs revenue collected at Wellington in April totalled £207,431. against' £181.509 for April, 1934. For the four months of 1935 the revenue is £829,023. compared with £709.807 for the corresponding period of 1934.

The duty collected on motor spirit this month totalled £00,500, as against £00,757 for April, 1004. The petrol figures for the four months' periods are £240,381 and £248,252 respectively. Tho collection of tyre tax yielded £1709, compared with £1520 in April, 1934. For the four months the figures arc £7921 and £0045 respectively.

The collection of sales tax in April totalled £71,937, compared with £55,330 in April, 1934. The total for four months of £201,335 shows an increase of £47,730 over last year's total.

Beer excise collections for April totalled £523 U compared with £1793 for April, 1934. For the period the figures are £18,920 and £18,415 respectively.
