USEFUL LIVING.

DYNAMICS- OF CITIZENSHIP.

IDEALS FOR THE PEOPLE

The speaker at a luncheon of the Auckland Creditmen's Club, held at the rooms of Milne and Choycc, was Mr. E. A. Aldridge, who spoke on "Dynamics of Citizenship." Mr. Aldridge said there was no hope for a democratic country that did not ally itself with progress, and to obtain that progress it was necessary to have courage, culture and character. Character was the prime dynamic of all citizenship, bufit was only by combining all three that citizens moved on and made progress.

Citizenship was more than the .mere recording of votes, sitting on some council, or paying rates to the same local body. It was higher than life itself. Through our living frames, through our minds and acts, the men of to-day were the channels of the future. Citizenship was that love of the people, such as that which bound Britishers together, that enabled them to have an army and a navy, and rule the seas as part of the greatest Empire the world had known. The men of to-day should realise that they were here by virtue of what had been done in the past, done by the dynamic actions of men of years long ago. Dynamic . forces could be inspired and operated by virtue of thinking and moving along the right lines.

Mr. Aldridge, who is to give a series of lectures to .members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation.
