FAMOUS ROMANCE.
HUGH WALPOLE'S "VANESSA."
Pet in London and in the mountain district of Cumberland in the 'eighties, the story of the ne'V film coming to the Majestic Theatre to-morrow, "Vanessa— Her Love Story," deals with a deathless romance. The film is an adaptation of the fourth and last novel in Hush Walpole's famous saga of the spectacular Herries family. Walpole. it will bo remembered, is an Aucklander by birth.
The romance of the story—published as "Vanessa" in 1933—is that of an undying love between Vanessa and Benjic Herries, the "wild one" of his family. The title vole is in the capable hands of Helen Hayes, while the popular Robert Montgomery gives a sterling performance as Benjic. Otto Knitter provides a touching representation of Vanessa's husband. The immortal Judith Paris, one of the outstanding characters in modern literature, is portrayed by May Robson. The sunporting east, comprising 80 screen players, is headed by Lewis Stone. Henry Stephenson and Violet Kemblc-Coopcr.
The Majestic supports will include i jubilee newsreel, dealing with preparations for the celebrations, a Charlie Chase comedy and a fine travelogue in teclmicolour ("Zeeland, Hidden Paradise").
