LIQUOR AFTER HOURS.

. — i LICENSEE FINED £6.

For permitting liquor to be consumed at the Prince Albert Hotel, Onehunga, after horn's, oil April 0, Hugh McGolieaii (Mr. T. J. Fleming) licensee, was fined £6 and costs this morning by Mr. W. 11. McKean, S.M.

Sergeant S. A. Brown, who prosecuted, said that on the evening of April 0 lie found a mail leaving the hotel with three large bottles of beer. McGeliean admitted selling the beer.

Mr. Fleming pleaded in extenuation that McGeliean was taking stock after hours when the man, who was a close personal friend', asked for the beer.

Mr. McKean remarked that at the last annual meeting of the Manukau Licensing Committee a concession had been made to McGeliean by allowing him and his family to live in a cottage adjoining the hotel. That concession would have to be reviewed at the next meeting of the committee when they were informed of two convictions recorded against him for breaches of the Licensing Act.

Sergeant Brown said that McGeliean was convicted on a similar charge and fined £4 last November.

For permitting liquor to be consumed on his premises after hours on March 29 Robert Duncan Rugg (Mr. H. 10. Barrowclougli), licensee of the Club Hotel, was convicted and lined £3 and costs. L. Meyrick, barman, was fined £1 and costs for serving the liquor, and C. Parfitt £2 and costs for receiving it.

Sergeant S. A. Brown said that at 8.30 a.m. 011 March 29 lie went into tlio Club Hotel and. found. Parfitt in the bar with a glass of liquor before him. Bugg said that Parfitt had been called into the hotel that niorniiig by Mm. Rug<r, who wanted a. saw sharpened. This was kept in a shed, and as the key was in the bar Mrs. Rugg told the barman to get it, and at the same time give Parfitt a drink. This statement was corroborated by the barman.
