TWO WOMEN KILLED
LORRY LIGHTS FAIL.
VEHICLE GOES OVER BANK.
LITTLE GIRL INJURED,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Sunday. An accident resulting in the death of two Dunedin women and injuries to a child, who was admitted to hospital, occurred this evening on the Portobello Road. The victims were: — KILLED. Mrs. Esther Matilda Good, widow, aged 72. Miss Annie Julian, aged 40. INJURED. Hilda Gray, aged seven, whoso parents reside at Cromwell.
The victims were all related. They were members of a party returning to Dunedin in a lorry, the two women occupying the front seat with the driver, Mr. John Garrick, of St. Kilda.
The driver dimmed the lights of the vehicle to pass an approaching car, and the lights failed. When he tried to switch them on, the lorry plunged over a bank 12ft high on to the beach. The other occupants escaped injury.
