LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

PROGRESS IN AUCKLAND. I REPORT FOR PAST SEASON. Features of progress made last season by the Auckland Rugby Football League are emphasised in the report and balancesheet to be presented at the annual meeting, to be held oil Tuesday evening. There was a marked increase in ground and grandstand receipts, in spite of the fact that on ten Saturdays rain was experienced. The final balance to be transferred to the consolidated funds of the League is shown as being an increase on the credit last year of £414 13/8. The working account balance improved from £702 7/9 in 1933 to £1254 0/9, the gate and grandstand returns totalling £2814 10/3. Tlie total assets are set down at £10,983 16/7, including Carlaw Park £0980 11/2, grandstand £3056 10/9, furniture and fittings £101 6/2, and plant and gear £181 13/10, leaving a profit of £435 18/4. The players' insurance scheme was altered, and as the result of the new scale and fewer accidents a saving of over £70 was effected, while £44 was a reduction resulting from office space economies. Clubs benefitocl to the extent of £429 17/3, which was slightly in excess of the previous season. The League gave freely in cash and by the use of Carlaw Park for deserving causes, apart from the proceeds from the annual charity day. In recognition, of the improved play, £10 extra was expended on team trophies. The report referred to the retirement of prominent officials—Messrs. F. Ellis (treasurer), T. Davis (secretary, Junior Control Board), and to Mr. V. M. Simpson (secretary, Referees' Association) — and to the good work being done by the various units in the ' organisation, including the primary schools and ladies' social committees. After surveying matches played at Carlaw Park—the interIsland fixture, Waitaiigi Shield contest, and inter-provincial games—the report congratulated the teams which performed so well against Western Suburbs, of Sydney, who lost possession of the Rangatira Shield to Richmond.
