EDUCATIONAL BILL.
LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS. ADDRESS TO TEACHERS. An address was given this by the Dominion president of the New Zealand Educational Institute (Mr. A. O. Banner) to sixty members of the Auckland branch of the Institute. Mr. Banner explained the main flun<?«~ of the Education Amendment Bill, at present before Parliament, and expressed regret that such bills were brought down in the dying hours of the ses*ioi.'. He *aid that the Act seemed to be in Mic.i a chaotic state that frequent amendments were necessary. Referring to the exclusion of five-year-old children from the primary schools.. | J[r. Banner said that the petition for |the repeal of the legislation acting those children had been handed to the Education Committee of the House, but the evidence had not yet been heard. A resolution was carried asking tlu.r the Government consider the petition immediately.
