SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

An interesting and instructive evening was spent at No. 7, Burrows Avenue, on Wednesday by the members of the Parnell branch of the Douglas Social Credit movement, and a number of friends. Mr. Roskilly was in the chair. The Rev. Greenwood, of St. Alban's Vicarage, was the speaker for the evening, and gave a clear and forceful presentation of the aims and objects of the movement from the standpoint of Christian ethics. In conclusion it was decided to form a study group to meet regularly.

Pastel pink dahlias and deep blue delphiniums were the floral decorations on the tea tables of George Court and Sons private tearoom yesterday afternoon, wl\en Miss Clarke entertained a number of guests at a bridge party. The guest of honour was Mrs. Graham McDonald, who is at present on a holiday visit from Singapore. Among those playing were: Mesdames A. P. Hodgkin, G. Clark, C. Murray, B. Woolley, C. Hewson, F. Bell, Wardell, T. Davies, L. McGregor,' Swallow, L. Elliott, J. O. Frost, Roy .'eet, F. Higham, W. E. Lewisham, Edmond Brown, Spring, Neary, Ross Seiger, Misses Slack, Gouk, and Robinson.

A bright, informal gathering was held at Mrs. H. Cawood-Edwards' residence, "Ngati - Whatua," Marino Parade, Heme Bay, in aid of the Clarcmont endowment fund for the Marist Brothers. During the evening the guests played bridge, interspersed with selected musical items. At the conclusion of bridge the results of the competitions were announced, the winning numbers being Mrs. Roland R. Lovctt, Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. J. F. Barrett, Mrs. G. T. Lovctt, and Miss Lulu Drysdale. After supper, dancing was enjoyed in the lounge, which had been transformed into a veritable fairy palace of delight by the efforts of this popular hostess and her, army of willing helpers, who had carried out tlioir scheme of decoration most appropriately in an autumn tint motif. Among those present were: Mesdames Holmes, D. Barrett, J. P. Hughes, J. F. Barrett, Headland, Sheldon, C. Rowe, Alison Rowe, H. J. Fitzjames (Melbourne), T. McHugh, G. T. Lovctt, S. Teague, Brookes, P. Kyne, H. Brennean, R. Sneddon, E. Lester Lovctt, R. Roland Lovett, Watson Redhill, Misses Lulu Drysdalei Mary Wathcw, Claire Rowlands, Foley, Fairweather, Rogers, Tindale-McLeod. F. Overington, Dulcie Teague, Pearl Robinson, Hazel Teague, Alison Wood, Hilgard .Robinson, Nora Moran, Leslie, Dickens, Chapman.
