ALWAYS BEING LOST.

A queerly fascinating place is the London Passenger Transport Board's lost property office. Thereto are ta-ken articles found in London's railway traius, trams and buses, and to it all inquiries for lost articles arc directed. Apart from personal application, 65,000 written inquiries were received in 1934. Ninety per cent of lost umbrellas are lost by women. In the year 81,000 umbrellas were lost in the board's vehicles. Other articles lost numbered 190,000. Wet weather means a jump in fugitive umbrellas. One day 901 umbrellas were found. In normal weather they dribble in at a paltry 150 or so a. day. Between 4000 and 5000 unclaimed and "timeexpired" umbrellas are sold by the board at public auction every month. Every week between £250 and £300 in cash is received in handbags and wallets.
