Originality in the education of children is shown in two of our illustrations. Top right is a picture of an official of the Education Department in Victoria demonstrating breast-stroke swimming to a class of Melbourne girls. Swimming is taught in all Australian schools. Below this is a children's percussion band in Shoredilch, London, practising for a festival. The conductor is aged seven. Top left shows preparations for an act of remembrance. These ribbons have been collected from the Cenotaph in Martin Place, Sydney. They will be burned and the ashes scattered on Gallipoli next Anzac Day. Our fourth illustration depicts the inconvenience caused by a recent strike of lift men in New York. Office workers had to climb the stairs to work, and some walked as far as the fortieth storey. The stair looks as if it had been built only for an emergency.
