THE WASTE-PAPER BASKET.
A modern faehion is a waste-paper basket to match the eoft furnishings of a room, and one is easily made from a Stilton cheese or other'circular basket. Cut two pieces of material, one for the lining, one for the outside, each two inches wider than the height of the basket, and two inches longer than its circumference. Seam the sides of each and join the two pieces at the top, being careful to see that all the raw edges come inside. Cut a circle of cardboard the size of the bottom of the basket, cover it with the lining, and fit and sew it to the lining at the lower end —the one distant from the seam. A bag with soft sides and a firm base ie thus formed. Tush the basket between the lining and the outside, and secure the. cardboard base to the bottom of the basket, using gimp pins or brass tack*. Pull the outer part of the cover under the basket, hold it, in position with long stitches taken from side to side, and hide them with a circular piece of dark linenettc.
