FROCKS AT THE TROTS. EARLY AUTUMN ENSEMBLES. Fine weather attracted a large number of racing enthusiasts to Alexandra Park to-day when the Auckland Trotting Club held its autumn meeting. Among the ensembles were a number of early autumn ones, featuring attractive suits and tailleurs. The newest note was seen in the hats which, in most cases, showed the tall crowns which are going to make the ctming season a very "high-hatted" one. ' Shoes and bags matched, and colour was introduced into the accompaniments in subtle ways, tn the suitings fawns and browns held their own, and navy had a definite place. A concert and social evening, organised by Neville Carlson's Revue Company, was bold in the main social hall at the Mental Hospital on Thursday night. Concert items were interspersed with dancing and community singing, and Mr. Ernest Parkinson's string band rendered several island melodies. The following contributed to the programme: Misses Joan Power. Joy Young, Joyce Cain, Gloria and Betty Lelean, Erica Hay, Messrs. George Davies'j Jack Driscoll, T. King, H. Walters, Lorrie Cook, Bruce Pollock, Scott Bond. Ernest and Albert Parkinson. Neville Carlscn, E. Stack and Master Jack Carlsen. Miss Power was the accompanist.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTES. TE HOE. At the annual meeting of the Te Hoe Women's Institute the following oilicers were.elected: President, Mrs. S. Read; secretary, Mrs. C. Twining; committee, Mesdames Collins, D. Twining, Patehell, McQueen, and Miss Crenfeldt. The athletic team was congratulated on its winning the trophy at the group meeting held at Rangiriri in February. The report showed a very active year, with the funds in a prosperous condition.

AUCKLAND CENTRE. There , was a good attendance at the annual meeting held on Tuesday. Mrs. Teape presided. The officers elected for the coming year were: President, Mrs. Teape (unopposed); committee, Mesdames Teape, Lornie, de Montalk, Davis, Neal, McDonald, Barrett, Brady, Sugden, Butler, Miss Reston, Mrs. Turner. Mrs. Neal presented Mrs. Teape with a bouquet as a token of appreciation from the retiring committee. The delegates appointed to attend the bi-annual federation conference were: Mesdames Neal and Barrett. An address on her work as a member of the Auckland City Council was given by Miss Alice Basten, J. P. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker at the conclusion of her address. Mrs. de Montalk conducted community singing. Mrs. Brittain being accompanist. Afternoon tea. was served by the committee. At a subseuent committee meeting Mesdames de Montalk, McDonald and Neal were appointed vicepresidents, Mrs. Davis secretary, Mrs. Sugden treasurer.
