ROWING.

N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. TRAINING ACTIVITIES AROUSE INTEREST. RECEPTION TO CREWS. The officials of the Auckland Rowing Association and New Zealand Championship Regatta Club have arrangements well in band for the New Zealand championship regatta 011 the AVhau Estuary next Saturday afternoon, and everything points to a most successful gala.

-The executive officers are having a busy time, two meetings being held daily, so that nothing is left to chance.

On Friday at 11 a.m. the visiting oarsmen will be tendered a reception by the Auckland Rowing Association in Messrs. Milne and Choyce's Tudor tearooms. Air. Ernest Davis, president of the A.R.A., will preside.

On Saturday night the visiting crews will be entertained by the Auckland Rowing Association at a smoke concert in the Akarana Yacht Club's boathouse. All invitation has been extended the oarsmen to Dixieland Cabaret 011 Saturday night.

A number of the visiting oarsmen have already arrived, and those seen afloat already on either the harbour or Whau courses are:—Wairau (holders senior fours title), Tauranga, Hamilton and Napier fours, and the scullers, T. Alexander (Gisborne), P. Campbell (Aramoho). The Gisborne and some of Mercer crews arrived last evening, and to-day Petone, Star, Aramoho, Avon, Tauranga and the balance of Gisborne appeared. 011 Friday Union, Hamilton, Opotiki, New Plymouth and Whangarei are due, and the remainder of New Plymouth, Mercer and Whangarei on Saturday morning.

The crews have the local boathouses at their disposal and all express satisfaction for the arrangements the association officials have made.

The general opinion formed of the crews seen in action already is that they are of a high standard, and the likely winners are well concealed. Spectators should witness exceptionally close racing.

The official programme will provide a splendid souvenir of the regatta. It contains a plan of the course, and visitors can, from the various marks, easily pick the positions of the crews. In addition to the other information, a full-record of the previous title holders is included.

The scene at the Whau is one of much activity. The landing place is completed, while the sdjacent ground is a canvas town for the housing of boats, dressing tsnts and the various officials' requirements. Everything has been so arranged that the roped-ofT area in no way impedes the spectators' views.
