MAORI WOMAN'S DEATH.

ENERGETIC SOCIAL WORKER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUNUI, this day. The death occurred at her home in Taupo Road last night of Mrs. Tuhi Takurua, better known as Maata Tuao, aged 74 years. Mrs. Takurua was well known as an energetic social worker among the natives, and was a staunch Roman Catholic, being one of the earliest in the Taumarunui district. She was well known as the owner of Marthas Park, and Maata Street was named after her. Mr. M. F. Poihipi, native interpreter, is a nephew. A tangi is being held at the Hikurangi pa.
