KILLING QUOTA.

An , -increase in the killing quota of the Belfast works for the present year Tysis "advocated in a question addressed to thp Minister of Agriculture in the House...,of Representatives this afternoon by Mr. T. D. Burnett (Government, Temuka).
Mr. Burnett asked if the Minister and the Meat Board would, in the continued interests of the meat producers in Canterbury province, maintain the muchdesired and legitimate competitive stock market by increasing Borthwick's killing'quota from 620,000 to 750,000. head at the firm's Belfast works during the present year. During the last five years, said Mr. Burnett, of the total South Island killings of 24,318,736 sheep and lambs, Borthwicks only secured 2,814,311, representing l. r ),68 per cent of the aggregate South Island total. In 1930 Borthwicks' percentage was 16.07, in 1931 18.86,. in 1932 14.37, in 1933 14.73, and in 1934 14.55' per cent, of the total Canterbury, killings. Over the five-year period, 1928-1933, Borthwicks' secured only from 20 to 2~> per cent.
